Vision Zero Conference in New Delhi: A Step Towards Safer Workplaces

New Delhi, January 20, 2025 – The Vision Zero conference, a significant event aimed at promoting workplace safety and preventing accidents, is being held today and tomorrow in New Delhi. This conference is a collaborative effort organized by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), the OSH Academy with its Vision Zero Rating System, the ISSA Section on Prevention in the Construction Industry, and the German Social Accident Insurance (DGUV).

The conference features a distinguished lineup of guests and speakers who will share their insights and experiences on various aspects of occupational safety and health. The event kicked off with an inaugural session that included a welcome address by Prof. Vivek Kumar, Head of the Centre for Rural Development and Technology at IIT Delhi, and introductory remarks by Prof. Karl-Heinz Noetel, President of ISSA Construction and International Advisor for the Vision Zero Rating System.

The conference program includes several technical sessions covering a wide range of topics related to Vision Zero. On the first day, sessions will focus on Vision Zero in the construction and chemical industries, tools and standards for Vision Zero, and safety in the rural sector. Notable speakers include Sanjeev Raina, Executive Director of Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited, and Dr. Helmut Nold, Senior Consultant on Occupational Safety and Health at ISSA Chemistry.

Day two will delve into Vision Zero in the context of a changing world of work, management tools for Vision Zero, and the future of Vision Zero. Speakers such as Dr. Mark Füllemann, Founder and Director of Practice & Experience GmbH, and Dr. Arkaprabha Sau, Deputy Director at the Ministry of Labour and Employment, Government of India, will share their expertise on topics ranging from migration challenges to the role of artificial intelligence in occupational health practices.

The conference will conclude with the awarding of Vision Zero Ratings, recognizing organizations that have demonstrated excellence in implementing Vision Zero principles. This session will be chaired by Prof. Karl-Heinz Noetel and Dr. Avneesh Singh, International Coordinator for the Vision Zero Rating System.
