Livingstone, Zambia – 29 October 2024

The Africa Vision Zero Network has achieved a significant milestone with the successful launch of the Vision Zero initiative in Zambia’s mining sector during the Zambia Chamber of Mines’ 8th Annual Conference. Held in Livingstone, the event brought together key stakeholders to advance occupational safety, health, and wellbeing within the mining industry.

As Chairperson of the Africa Vision Zero Network, Dr. Elizabeth Lungu-Nkumbula had the distinct honor of signing a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Zambia Chamber of Mines and the International Social Security Association (ISSA), Mining Section. This partnership underscores the shared commitment to fostering safer and healthier workplaces across Africa.

The launch was met with an overwhelmingly positive response, with attendees expressing keen interest in joining the Africa Vision Zero Network to champion the Vision Zero principles within their organizations.

The collaboration between these leading organizations marks a pivotal step toward embedding a culture of prevention in Zambia’s mining sector and beyond. Zambia's national television covered the event in their main news.
